According to research, foods with a score of 70 or above should be promoted, while foods with a score of 31 to 69 should be consumed in moderation and those with a score of 30 or lower should be avoided.

Nine health-relevant areas, including nutrient ratios, vitamins, minerals, food ingredients, additives, processing, particular fats, fiber & protein, and phytochemicals, are rated for a total of 54 qualities. According to Tufts, domain scores are added to provide a final Food Compass Score (FCS), which ranges from 1 (least healthy) to 100 (most healthy) for all foods and beverages.
